We've all seen this argument be used online at some point by rabid yaoi fans (not the normal, calm ones mind you), and well...quite frankly we call bullshit on it, and here's why:

The concept 'don't like don't look' only works if and only if that object isn't everywhere and in everything. :nods: by koffeeben

And guess what ladies & gentlemen? Yaoi (and to a much MUCH lesser degree, yuri) are in every type of media that exists. :(

There is literally no escaping these genres (especially when it comes to the yaoi fandoms). *sighs*

Now before some of you angry yaoi fans (not the normal sane ones) who're reading this say, "But hetero is everywhere too! You don't see me complaining about it!" <- You'd be right, EXCEPT...there is one major problem with that statement.

Unlike the yaoi and yuri fandoms, hetero tends NOT to over-sexualize every pairing they support, and more often than not, hetero is usually canon and romantic/sentimental, NOT hardcore erotica which is why we're fine with it here. <- Because hetero shippers tend to keep they're artworks within the rules that D.A. has set out for us. (^_^)

If you don't believe us, just check some of the popular hetero clubs on D.A. like: heterotalia-pairings.deviantar…, hopeless-romanticz.deviantart.…, or hetero-love.deviantart.com :D

If you've dropped by their pages, you'll notice that the majority of their artwork consists of hopeless romantic material. Every few drawings or so you MIGHT see a more adult-orientated drawing, but in hetero adult artworks tend to be rare (as hetero shippings are overwhelmingly about tame hopeless romantic stuff like unrequited love, passionate embraces, or going on dates and whatnot). Even then most mature hetero artwork is contained in only ONE folder, and it isn't everywhere. :]

And on the other spectrum of that, we have the yaoi genre...which pretty much throws the entire concept of romance in the garbage and opts to use male characters solely for the sexual perversion factor. <- This is NOT to be confused with shounen-ai (which is more focused on the relationship aspect).

Now then...let us demonstrate how the 'don't like don't look' argument fails when concerning these genres. :boogie:

First off, look up any 2 male characters who're (canonically) good friends, and you'll notice an odd pattern emerge.

Within the first few searches you'll usually find a shounen-ai pairing of them (even though they're NOT canonically gay for each other to begin with) and within a few more pages of that you'll run into the dreaded yaoi. This is where that 'don't like don't look' concept completely falls into the gutter. >:[

We just gave you all a test, and the 'don't like don't look' concept failed at it horribly. We didn't search the yaoi genres, all we did was search two male characters who were close friends, and we ran into yaoi porn of them and all the r-rated fandom that accompanies it.

You know how we know that it fails miserably? We looked up the words 'Vegeta' then 'Goku' from the shounen anime series Dragon Ball Z (two characters who are straight, are friendly rivals, have wives they love, and have children with those wives) and yeah...we ran into yaoi within the first few searches of them on Deviantart, Tumblr, AND on Google.

They even had yaoi clubs of GokuxVegeta on Tumblr, which is like what the heck?! They're rivals, they have have wives and children! <- This was really depressing to see (since they got rid of ALL the female characters AND the kids so they can sexually exploit Goku and Vegeta together)....

Now before some of you more aggressive yaoi fans shout, "Canon Nazi!", we aren't one of those groups. We accept crack pairs, crossovers, and other such genres here! Emoticon Gallery by Abfc <3

What we don't agree with is when people sexually exploit our favorite characters just so they can drool over them ALL the freaking time. <- Now not all of the yaoi/yuri fan-base does this, but it happens wayyyyyy too often (especially considering how frequently you will run into it online). :grump:

And like we said, it doesn't matter where you search really, if you're a fan of ANY male character who has a close friend who is also male, you're bound to find yaoi porn of them even if you don't want to see it. <- And this unfortunately happens whenever you search ANY popular male character. :[

And for those of you rabid yaoi fans (who are STILL secretly reading this) say, "But hetero shippers ALWAYS do that with guyxgirl friendships!" you'd be right, but like we've mentioned before, hetero ships don't always sexually exploit their pairings for the perversion factor, it tends to be rare (due to hetero artworks being mostly about hopeless romantic stuff). :thumb397372568:

Plus in regards to the argument, "There's a back button you know." <- We didn't press on the drawings or the images AT ALL, but the thumbnail preview of those drawings were big enough as it was. Thumbnails can't hide the fact that character A is butt-raping character B. :disbelief:

Remember guys and gals, thumbnails on Deviantart don't have to be pressed to be SEEN, and on Google, Tumblr, and other media websites, the images don't have to be pressed at all!...They just pop-up as soon as you enter search!

It's quite annoying knowing that all we did was search two male characters who were friends in order to run into yaoi. We didn't even type in the words 'yaoi', 'hot bishie', 'anal', or any other weird term in order to look up pervy images, all we did was look up a male character's name.

In other words, if a male character exists, rabid yaoi fans (not the normal sane yaoi fans) will take him and sexually exploit him for their own perversion. They don't care if he's asexual or straight, they don't give a crap about his hopes or his dreams, his personality traits, or if he wants to help save the world, they only live to take off his clothes and throw him with another male character so they can squeal at their perverted imaginary boy love! :steaming:

Rabid fans like this make the normal yaoi/shounen-ai fans look really bad unfortunately. The sane yaoi fans will ship their own (original) gay characters and canon gay characters (which is cool with us), the rabid yaoi fans don't. Instead they ship any and ALL male characters regardless of their stories, or their relationships just so they can squeal at how 'hawt together' they are. <- This happens A LOT in South Park, Hetalia, Naruto, Death Note, etc. :shakefist:

Well here at our non-yaoi support group we don't believe in that, we believe there is more to a character than what they look like naked or sexualized. To us they have stories, a background, and a journey.

To us characters have meaning, and we embrace that here. The yaoi and yuri genres don't. They take characters, butcher them to suit their fetish and discard their journeys in order to fawn at how 'sexy' they are. When it comes down to it, it's no better than when a straight guy faps to a picture of two hot girls making out, it's the same damned thing. :thumb91010022:

-And for those of you who feel the same way but were too afraid to say it out loud (in fear of being attacked by the more aggressive yaoi fans), you're welcome. Hug emoticon by smiekie

P.S. If you'd like to help out our group we are searching for art contributors or other deviants that would like to pitch in! Our admins have been busy trying to make a friendly competition and we're short staffed. Please note our co-founder if you'd be interested! Now with that being said stay safe everyone and Happy 4rth of July weekend!   Cuddles: Fireworks by Emotikonz
